Riffs and rhythmic spurts from Rochdale. An odd one, this, with its jerky Devo-cum-Stranglers-cum-Sparks riffs and rhythmic spurts, and the vocals by a bloke from Rochdale who sounds like a proper yank. Comparisons aside, Clor tout quirky, boppable, skewed pop. An interesting, sometimes repetitive and occasionally irritating ride, this album does beg a listen, and the good tracks, such as the catchy Love + Pain, get better with each spin. Good on Clor, then, for eschewing the vogue for half-baked, lame-assed rock’n’roll to come up with something rather more fruity and eccentric instead.Clor – Clor, released 25 July 05 on Regal.
