Girl-group pop from Denmark. Having a stylistic trademark is all well and good, but there’s a danger that, if hammered out too often, it will prove to be a handicap. Danish duo, The Raveonettes, understand this and have thus abandoned the B-flat major conceit of their debut LP. Their sophomore effort exhibits the same noir-ish retroism, but its songs are lighter and refreshingly fuzz-free, with their love of 60s girl-group pop taking centre stage and guest spots by Ronnie Spector, Martin Rev and Mo Tucker upping the vintage ante. The Raveonettes - Pretty In Black, released 18 July 05 on Columbia.
