![]() bloc party, the kills, the cribs at somerset house
Bloc Party, The Kills and The Cribs live at Somerset House. As the sky turned from blue to black over that most tasteful of London venues, three new bands at different stages of their ascent played their hearts out.![]() Somerset House as viewed from the stage. Wakefield’s finest, The Cribs, were clearly feeling chuffed to be invited to such a pleasant soirée and provided an energetic display of shouty Brit-rock peppered with hopeful references to champagne and vol-au-vents. The Kills were filthy as ever. Playing tracks from their recent No Wow album, they twisted and juddered over Hotel’s hypnotic guitar and VV’s groaning vocals. They have star quality, no doubt – but could they do with a couple more melodies? ![]() Bloc Party's Kele and Russell. Finally, the stage was quite literally set for Bloc Party. Coming on to the drum-track from Lumidee’s Never Leave You and a blast of LED lighting, they kicked off with Like Eating Glass and never looked back, blistering though tracks from their debut LP Silent Alarm. The performance was classy and assured, particularly when you consider this is their first year in the limelight. How far can they go? Check the video and give us your thoughts. Tune in to BBC 6 Music to hear tracks from the concert.
