A fairy-tale chase in the Deep South. Cursed gold, evil uncles and swampland pursuit darken David Gordon Green’s Undertow, his follow-up to the sweetly quirky homage to slacker life in the Deep South, All The Real Girls. Here, twinkle toes Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) emerges all grown up and speaking Southern. As the young hero, along with his little brother, he’s set off on a Night Of The Hunter-style fairy-tale chase when his villainous uncle murders his father for the family treasure. All told, it’s a patchwork of thriller elements, stitched together somewhat awkwardly with cutesy teens and Gordon Green’s trademark visual beauty. Undertow, on selected release 17 June 05.
