Wow, fresh talent! Birmingham’s Editors have been around since 2003, but ‘Munich’ is their second release and it looks like these guys will go far. Echoes of Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen and Doves can be heard throughout these tracks. The title track itself is a whirlwind of theremins and discordant guitars, with frontman Tom Smith’s bellowing croon going ‘People are fragile things, you should know by now’, and the guitars get louder and the drumming more frantic until the song stops just as subtly as it started. The second track ‘Release’ is slower-paced and although it doesn’t have the immediacy of ‘Munich’ its just as good. Editors are just another sign of the great music that has been coming out lately, and if the upcoming debut is as good as this single then we are in for a treat.
