Campfire music for the criminally insane. Crater-pitted and unearthly like the landscapes of his native Iceland, mysterious laptop’n’four-track pest Mugison's second LP proper continues to defy categorization. Badly Drawn Boy gone feral, the miasma of Mugimama Is This Monkey Music? has an early Sebadoh-ish fervour for the growly and the guttural. But while it lacks the intricately carved surfaces of Bjork's Medulla - the album it surpassed to become Iceland's album of the year - its forays into AA-battery-powered folktronica have a twilit, elfin beauty of their own. Barking, but not necessarily at the moon. Mugison - Mugimama Is This Monkey Music?, released 25 April 05 on Accidental Records.
