Bullet Boy
by: DanBrightmore  08 april 05
rating: rating of 3 and 1/2

Hackney Hardcore
So Solid Crew’s Asher D is fresh out of jail and in trouble backing up his bredren on Hackney’s mean streets. The film uses an impressive cast of non-actors and improvised scenes with first-time director Saul Dibb coaxing a brooding performance from his lead. Telling a story that echoes the former rapper's own life, comparisons with gangland dramas from acrosss the pond like Boyz N The Hood are inevitable. But this is a movie with a message where the violence is coldly realistic not shamefully exploitative. Bullet Boy hits hard without preaching, while teaching the youth dem that guns are bad.
