The French duo cut a rug. Let’s not forget that Daft Punk’s debut, Homework, was possibly the freshest, rawest and funkiest post-acid house album ever recorded. The follow-up, Discovery, trod a dotty line between accessible (“cheese”) and prog (“noodles”). Now, with Human After All, the French duo ditch the cheesy noodles and resurrect their heavy, droid-ian disco and vocoder vocals shtick in a metallic attack that’s both dancefloor direct and riffishly erect. Recorded in just a few weeks, and with repetitive - and somewhat monotonous – beats to the fore, this isn’t earth shattering but it’s bound to make electronic body-music freaks cut a rug. Daft Punk – Human After All, released 21 March 05 on Virgin.
