Next please. NYC’s The Bravery must surely be the last batch of “directional” haircuts managing to clamber aboard the synth-pop bandwagon before it disappears forever. Their chosen path has been paved far more convincingly by compatriots The Killers, The Faint and The Fever, which makes the furore greeting their clunkingly derivative debut even more puzzling. The spectre of Duran Duran looms large, but vocalist Sam Endicott’s Bono fixation makes them sound like wannabe stadium rockers rather than the cutting-edge scenesters they clearly imagine themselves to be. Basically, more slavery than bravery. The Bravery - The Bravery, released 14 March 05 on Loog.
