Violently unhappy. These are “love songs and grief songs” says Venetian Snares of his heavily Hungary-influenced album (the title means “born under a bad star”). But where this caustic drill’n’bass genius is concerned, you know it's no ordinary love, no ordinary grief. At first Snares, aka Winnipeg-based Aaron Funk, overwhelms you with an incredible marriage of orchestral works and serrated, adrenalized breakbeats. But even this is insignificant compared to the intense feelings of loss, anger, despair and sorrow Snares transfers onto the listener. Truly, madly awesome. Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született released 14 March 05 on Planet Mu.
