Two albums from Nebraska’s songwriting prodigy. Recording since he was 13, Conor Oberst’s reputation as a child prodigy has endured endlessly. These two albums should represent his coming of age - he is 24, after all. And yet, despite the rich music and heavyweight guest stars (Emmylou Harris gives her vocal blessing to the acoustic I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner assists with the striking beats and loops of Digital Ash In A Digital Urn), Oberst’s ragged voice and verbose excesses turn even his best work into the rough-book scrawlings of a teenage poet. Bright Eyes - Digital Ash In A Digital Urn / I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, released 24 January 05 on Saddle Creek Europe.
