Iridescent instrumentals. Like Gazza – sorry, G8 – Lucky Pierre (aka Aidan Moffat) has shortened his name. But despite a similar fondness for the demon drink, which Moffat has detailed in his records with Arab Strap, he hasn’t sunk into a sad self-parody of former glories. For like Moffat’s previous Pierre album, Hypnogogia, the iridescent instrumental soundtracks of Touchpool exist in a melancholy universe where old B-movie scores and kitsch cocktail jazz are seen through a sepia veil, as likely to bring tears to the eyes as getting two yellow cards in the World Cup. L Pierre – Touchpool, released 17 January 05 on Melodic.
