A match made in hip-hop heaven. This collaboration between underground hip-hop’s most prolific and talented producer (Madlib) and MC (MF Doom) is a dream team that actually exceeds expectations. Madvillainy eschews the rules – 22 songs and no chorus – and demonstrates what can be done with limitless imaginations and a stack of deranged samples. Doom is in particularly fine form, interspersing his apparently random musings with shards of unexpected depth, while Madlib seems to have reserved the best of his beatmaking for this album. A match made in heaven.Madvillain – Madvillainy, released 29 March 04 on Stones Throw.
