Delicious hip-hop quirkiness from the Bay Area. Remember when hip-hop was all about beats and rhymes? Nowadays the game’s been hijacked by the kind of strutting peacocks and cartoon bogeymen who couldn’t keep it real if they tried. Step forward Herve Salters – multi-instrumentalist, Quannum affiliate and owner of a dangerously febrile imagination, much of which seems to have leaked directly onto the mixing desk. Largely instrumental, bar guest spots from Lateef The Truth Speaker and Chief Excel, Cliquety Kliqk oscillates between bawdy bedroom funk, sleazy pop and the kind of sampledelic collage made famous by The Avalanches. General Electrics - Cliquety Kliqk, released 18 October 04 on Compost.
