only by destroying civilisation can we make the world a better place
You have probably seen the film, I guess you've probably read the book aswell, but here we go anyway.

If you do know the plot (I expect you do) then you'll know how brilliant it is. If you don't then I won't say anything except that its brilliant.

The film is incredably close to the book. For the most part the plot is the same, there is a slightly different ending as well as two other events and a few differences in chronology . The detail, though, is what is closest between the two - there are differences of course - for the most part, you will notice many sentences, tones and well, details that are shared between book and film. The film is faithful and accurate to this source, impressively so in most places.

It doesn't mean that this is one you shouldn't bother with though because this is so rich with little 'moments' and sentences to marvel at that you will very likely want to read through it all over again.

The main subject I should talk about is how it is written. Open the book and you will be shocked at the structure. It consists of small paragraphs, small 'islands' awash in a sea of short, tight sentences.
This is at first unusual but soon reveals itself to be pure genius. The book has composition, like a poem - you read the parts that your supposed to read quickly, quickly and same for the slow. You read a paragraph, then you read a lone sentence. This really works well, causing those occaisional, magnificant comments to stand out. You'll pause and think 'oh..', it is totally refreshing, its easy to read but it has so much power, you take it all in and it stays there and it never drains you.

I have to say, based on this, that Chuck Palanhiuk is one of the best writers of today. His style is just incredible, its totally brilliant, its complex whilst remaining simple. And he can tell a great story.

What is intruiging is how much truth there is in this book. Read it and it could really change your perspective on things.

This is excellantly written, a brilliant story and an important comment on the way we live today. You should definatively read it.
