Vocal gymnastics from the Icelandic innovator. Throughout her career Björk has continually dazzled audiences with her aural and visual invention. So it’s no surprise to find her pushing the envelope again on this, her fifth album. Besides a few synth beats and twitches, Medúlla almost entirely dispenses with instruments, its melodies and rhythms evolving from the many strange and wonderful sounds created by the human voice. Björk and her vocal collaborators, including Robert Wyatt, an Inuit throat singer and The Icelandic Choir, have created an extraordinary and beautiful sonic experience that’s as accessible as it is avant-garde.Björk – Medúlla, released 30 August 04 on One Little Indian.
