2 Many DJs do prog rock. Following the inordinate, but richly deserved success of their 2 Many DJs project, the expectations for the Dewaele Brothers’ latest Soulwax (their real modus operandi, lest we forget) album is understandably high. Unfortunately, such fevered anticipation has been cruelly misplaced. Having seemingly forgotten anything they’ve learnt while teaching the world’s dancefloors to have fun again, Any Minute Now is a disappointingly overblown and overproduced affair. Drenched in a vast industrial grandeur, any discernable glee is drowned in a sea of pompous and ponderous prog epic-ness. Time to give up the day job?Soulwax – Any Minute Now, released 23 August 04 on PIAS.
