Dreamy alt country that soothes like a warm bath. Their name suggests a grandmotherly sage and their music conjures the dusty plains of Nashville, but Ella Guru are, in fact, an eight-piece alt country band from Liverpool. Their song titles are similarly misleading: I Got My Mojo Working is about a cat and This Is My Rock And Roll couldn’t rock or roll less, drifting along in the haze of wistful slide guitar and gently brushed cymbals that characterizes much of this album. But John Yates’ and Kate Walsh’s hushed tones will slowly seduce you into their delicate, languid world.Ella Guru – The First Album, released 09 August 04 on Banana Recordings.
