Bass worked closely with Otto Preminger, Alfred Hitchcock and, latterly, Martin Scorsese to give their movies a distinctive visual identity. He also choreographed Psycho's famous shower scene and was so instrumental in its execution that there's a dispute as to whether it was Bass or Hitchcock who actually directed it. Also included are Bass' forays into commercial design - a career choice he pursued in the 1980s when he became disillusioned with Hollywood. It was fascinating to learn that he was behind such famous corporate identities as United Airlines, AT&T and American telecommunications company Bell. Saul Bass died in 1996 after completing work on Scorsese's Casino. Judging by the unartistic film posters that adorn the London Underground each week, he left no creative heir. Visit this exhibition to witness a man who not only led but invented his field.
