Zarina Bhimji ~ Turner Prize 2007
by: Niall-W 29 october 07
My personal choice for the prizewinner this year, a compelling and beautiful exhibition of photos and a short film.
Ms Bhimji takes pictures which draw attention to the missing people who would have lived in the scenes shot. I don't think dereliction has ever looked so beautiful.
The short film, of a ropeworks making fibres from clumps of sisal & hemp was reminiscent of those films of industrial processes they used to show in kids TV showing how Milk is bottled , but only if you can imagine Brian Eno making them.
Rather than asking you to think what you want from the pieces, she has a definite opinion she wants to communicate.
