No soul orchestra but still plenty of soul. You don’t need the lyrics of Use What You Got to tell you that Will Holland is green-fingered, for the homegrown funk of his third album almost makes your stereo photosynthesise in the sunshine. Tracks like Don’t Joke With A Hungry Man – which sounds like Northern Soul in a South Louisiana swamp - have clearly been fertilised by the atmosphere at his Quantic Soul Orchestra gigs. But pretty much everything he plants, from the gently horn-led title track to Perception’s jovial drum’n’bass, comes up smelling of roses. Quantic - Mishaps Happening, released 28 July 04 on Tru Thoughts.
