Guillermo Scott Herren returns just one year after his last release with another excursion into his patented glitch-hop. Preparations is typically dense, a pile-up of mini-melodies built from instrumental bric-a-brac. The Class Of 73 Bells, a collaboration with NY avant rockers School Of Seven Bells, is a washy collision of electronica with folk-goth, and undeniably effective. But the sense of clutter, not to mention a recurring high-pitched motif, makes Preparations feel like being trapped in someone else’s nightmares too long.
