Lady Scando-pop. As a collective, The Concretes have been breeding and expanding since 1995, but it’s only in the past two months that they’ve made it over to this Fair Isle. The ink being spilt on these Swedes is considerable. There’s certainly something appealingly frail and tremulous about songs like the snoozy Chico, the twangle of Say Something New and the Moogy murmur of You Can’t Hurry Love. Spinning this record is the equivalent of looking through a Vaseline-smeared lens at a load of pretty blondes flopped out on chenille-covered pillows, fiddling with each other’s hair. There’s too much patchouli in the air and, honestly, I prefer brunettes. The Concretes - The Concretes, released 21 June 04 on Licking Fingers.
