the pixies at brixton academy
by: Alastair Lee editor 03 june 04
i was never a major pixies fan but i had the Dolittle album and had friends that were very into them. So i went to last night's gig with an open mind but not expecting to be as impressed as i was. The tunes sound as fresh now as they did 15 years ago. Their sound is still so distinctive and i'd forgotten how many excellent tunes they did. Every one a winner. Frank Black is the best shouter i've ever heard and the lady's voice (sorry donlt know her name) compliments it brialliantly. Unhinged 2 minute pop songs played back to back, no 'hello Londons' just profesional musicians doing their thing. Judging by the crowd reaction iwasn't the only one enjoying this lean but potent approach to rock and roll.
