Dyslexic hip-hop gets the remix treatment. The music of Bryan Hollon is like a curiously dyslexic vision of instrumental hip-hop, and is therefore a difficult code for some remixers to decipher. Venetian Snares’ version of The Unthinkable is as pointless as translating it into Klingon, but others such as Mogwai and Boards Of Canada don’t ignore those beautifully obtuse melodies in their interpretations. Good as some of the remixes are, the new tracks sound more coherent and fully formed, suggesting it’s only Hollon himself who is truly fluent in his own unique musical language.Boom Bip – Corymb, released 31 May 04 on Lex.
