Electroclash femme fatale tries to go beyond fad. After years of being Blu-tac’d onto other people’s beats, the poster girl for every spiky-haired Shoreditch denizen finally prowls out alone. She’s dropped the deadpan dominatrix act of Frank Sinatra and Rippin’ Kittin, for vocals that are at once both intimate and insouciant. And while the beats offer plenty of synth-pop, angular android dancing tracks like Soundtrack For Now head more into techno territory. Whether that’s enough to prolong her beyond being a passing fashionista fad is debatable, but Caroline Herve without the electroclash mascara presents a prettier face.Miss Kittin - I Com, released 31 May 04 on Novamute.
