Author author. Two young Norwegian friends, Phillip and Erik, attempt to become novelists and cope with their professional and personal growing pains. The pair are engaging enough leads but only one author really features here and it’s director (and former NFTS grad) Joachim Trier. Shuffling time frames, an omniscient narrator and an eclectic soundtrack, Trier spins his virtuoso cut-up DJ techniques, though sometimes the whole mix feels like it’s playing at the wrong speed. Insanely ambitious, Trier’s unlikely to be a one-hit wonder. Reprise, on selected release 07 September 07.
