In the hood.

The film that made a star of Shia LaBeouf (currently starring in Transformers for Bay and Spielberg, and now cast in Indiana Jones 4) is a contemporary teen twist on Rear Window. It starts with a tragedy, becomes a teen comedy, then a romance, before settling into being a psycho thriller. While under house-arrest, LaBeouf's teen-with-issues starts surveilling his neighbourhood to relieve the boredom. With his best mate (Aaron Yoo) and the girl next door (Sarah Roemer), he begins to suspect a neighbour, played in full scary mode by David Morse, is a serial killer. Disturbia a suspenseful, enjoyably tricksy flick, even though director DJ Caruso isn't exactly Hitchcock.

Daniel Etherington 30 August 07 rating of 3
Hallam Foe, on selected release 31 August 07.
