True tales from a life of grime. I'm no expert on the UK Garage scene but Wiley's talent for communication and courage to speak from the heart is clear. Like his former mentee, Dizee Rascal, and the omnipresent Mike Skinner, he deals in playground tales of gangs, girls and urban realities, set to the simple but effective soundtrack of jerky garage beats, string stabs and sub bass. Sophisticated it is not, but it's real, very British and something to be proud of. Wiley - Treddin’ On Thin Ice, released 26 April 04 on XL Recordings.
