Get the message. While the name suggests a group of serious young men with an extensive collection of post-rock records, the Australian six-piece Architecture In Helsinki are anything but, instead throwing a dizzying variety of styles into their exuberant mix. All whoops and yelps, their third album jumps skittishly from primary-coloured electro to punk to poolside cabaret, with an impressive sense of its own silliness. There are moments of likeable pop; still more of bizarre, vaguely ambient experimentation (the aquatic-themed Underwater). You can't fault them for inventiveness, but somehow the fact that they claim to have written the whole album over Instant Messenger makes perfect sense.Architecture In Helsinki - Places Like This, released 13 August 07 on Tailem Blend.
