It’s groovy baby. This solo debut from Trunk Records head honcho and Jarvis Cocker mucker, Jonny, is proof that a carefully chosen set of samples can be all that’s required to create a fug of fun. No need for actually playing instruments (you bluff old traditionalist you), just get a killer funk loop, add some 70s porno gloss, a dash of espionage, and hang around being properly groovy. It’s Austin Powers on opium, the Pink Panther with a chillum. It’s a cuddly trip-hop cushion stuffed with Aphex Twin. Silly, but in a good way. Jonny Trunk - The Inside Outside, released 26 April 04 on Trunk Records.
