The Last Town Chorus - s/t album
by: Researcher 240680  Monday 29 March 2004
The Last Town Chorus, the Brooklyn-based duo of Nat Guy on guitar and Megan Hickey on lapsteel and vocals, play gentle, minimal and mezmerising songs in the vein of Liz Fraser, Cat Power, Mary Lorson and Jesse Sykes. Their debut album is a hypnotic wonder -
the seemingly ramdon strains and bursts of the lapsteel create a foggy dream-pop effect, soaring over Guy's simple strumming. The songs sparkle with warmth but are delicate enough to cause lethargy. Apparently they occasionally play live with drummers, pianists and violinists, but for the time being their strength is in being sparing; their haunting songs are uncluttered enough to suck in your energy and make you sleep. And that's a good thing...
