Collaborations and subverted hip-hop. It’s been four years since German duo Funkstörung spanked us with their plank of subverted hip-hop. A lot has changed in that time, not least their propensity to work with live musicians and vocalists. Titular irony notwithstanding, Disconnected flows wonderfully, a potent if muddled stream of abrasive digi-beats, insouciant acoustica, lugubrious melodies and narcoleptic bass, all heavily peppered and processed with their crunchy studio magick. Featuring a glut of diverse guests, this is taut and strident on the outside, yet surprisingly squishy in the centre.
