Please come in. This lo-fi group installation houses gems from a plethora of art stars, yet it’s as much a testament to obsessive curation as to artistic talent. Warmly unspectacular, the feeling is of being left alone in a stranger’s home. You must inspect everything. Happily, the records, paintings and salt and pepper pots within these walls and sombrely colourful ceiling are there for your perusal. You are surrounded by all the expected components of modern living, only each item has been tampered with by the imaginations of Marcel Dzama, Gavin Turk, Donald Judd and others. Magazines display Graham Dolphin’s delicate use of a soldering iron, Jonathan Allen’s magic wands mock the shape of a crucifix, while plantlife is carefully padded in place by Charlotte Moth. Despite how fitting the contents of the room are, nothing here was commissioned, instead foraged over time in the way you would garnish your own home. This results in the show being at once a collector’s living room and a collage of modern living. It could be a well thought out showroom, or, perhaps, simply a place to kill some time. Citadel 1 – Front Room/Killing Room is at David Risley Gallery, London, until 01 July 07.
