lambchop

A double helping of rich country soundscapes..

A little while ago, Lambchop vocalist Kurt Wagner decided to write a song a day for a few months and see what happened. Then he and the band were asked to write a soundtrack for a 1927 silent movie. This double album is a selection of cuts from both sessions, blending smoothly and sexily to create another milestone in the lengthy Lambchop legacy. It’s not quite as refined as Nixon or Is A Woman, but Wagner’s voice is as beguiling as ever, while the constantly shifting and richly detailed soundscape moves mellifluously through strings, strums, starkness and sarcasm in equal amounts. Delightful. (8/10) Paul Sullivan 06 February 04

Lambchop - Aw C’mon / No, You C’mon, released 09 February 04 on City Slang.
