Prefuse 73 takes a Spanish holiday. Scott Herren’s second LP under the Savath&Savalas guise should please and displease alternative hip-hop dorks in equal measure. His One Word Extinguisher release as Prefuse 73 was a flippant, apeshit splinter of a record, and while Apropa’t plays on the same irreverent mood, it does so with overwhelming subtlety. Loosely based around Herren’s own search for his cultural roots in Barcelona and collaboration with unknown Catalan singer/songwriter Eva Puyuelo Muns, it evokes the weird colours of Kevin Shields and Jack Nietzsche, while simultaneously existing as a Spanish folk album. Enveloped by an amazing ensemble of musicians, Apropa’t seems born out of passion and conviction.
