![]() scott walker: 30 century man
Great Scott. Scott Walker's switch from 60s baritone pop idol to full-blown avant-garde recluse bravely shook up the artistic status quo, which makes this pandering hagiography bizarrely inappropriate. Rounding up unassailably hip icons - Bowie, Radiohead, Jarvis Cocker - to pay homage, Stephen Kijak's talking-head-heavy documentary canonizes every sonic experiment Walker attempted, no matter how Spinal Tap-ish (slapping a side of beef for percussion), while blithely overlooking his crippling alcoholism or stage fright. The surprisingly amenable Walker and his legacy deserve something far more challenging.
