singles - franz ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out (Domino)
This lot are going to be big. And rightly so because this track is fantastic. Not content to include one great riff, Take Me Out has two. They have the confident swagger of The Strokes but they come from Glasgow and have the added grit that brings. NME reckon that this band will change you life. They might not go that far but they’ll definitely get you dancing with a smile on your face.

Amy Winehouse – Take The Box (Island)
The new single from the girl with a great voice and frank lyrics. On record it’s a bit polished but it’s great stripped down to its basics in our exclusive Collective session.

Gilsi – How About That (At Large Recordings)
The first single from Icelandic genre cruncher Gilsi. He’s like Beck in a hip-hop country rock pop fusing way with dirty beats and sharp witty lyrics. Rather good.

Jimmy Edgar – Access Rhythm EP (Warp)
Warp’s new bright young thing from Detroit sounds like a cross between the Prefuse 73 style electronica and the bedroom-beat rap of The Streets with better production. Top.

The Zutons – Pressure Point (Deltasonic)
The new single that proves that there’s more to The Zutons than just being mates with The Coral. Classic choppy blues rock, there’s maybe something of The Doors about them.
