TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED (360)
by: SONNYD  27 march 07
rating: rating of 4 and 1/2

EXORCISE YOUR SPEED DEMONS
There has been a serious drought of top racing games lately, leaving me thirsty for a refreshing shot of high octane gas guzzling action and at last my palate has been well and truly whetted with a diesel depth charger of a game (okay that's enough drink/driving innuendos - it's not big and it isn't clever!).

Enter Test Drive Unlimited, the best racing game I have ever played. A bold statement I know but this really is an instant classic, original and big (sorry huge) enough to keep you clocking up miles for hours, the sheer vastness and versatility of the roads on the Hawaiian island of Oahu put this game streets ahead of most other competitors and the fact you can do this on motorbikes as well as cars make this title a must have for racing fans.

What really sets TDU apart from the rest is M.O.O.R (Massively Open Online Racing) allowing the user to challenge any of thousands of online gamers to a race on over a thousand miles of roads, you simply flash your headlights at your opponent in order to throw down the gauntlet.

Other features that add to the depth of this title are the personalisation of your character allowing you to completely customise your driver to your own unique tastes, another bonus is having other cars and police on the roads keeping you on your toes and allowing you to cut in and out of traffic.

The first thing I did when I played TDU was discover all the car manufacturers garages (this needs to be done before the motorbikes can be accessed). Without completing any challenges I set off on my journey around the coast of the island thinking it shouldn't take too long, over 4 hours later I had driven around the coast of the island, this is without travelling inland too much!

Indeed this is a huge game and with its superb graphics and smooth gameplay this really is a must have title, the only reason I have not given a full 5/5 is because multiplayer is only available online.
