Cutting edge.

The raw materials used by The Knife - buzzing mid-range synths, guileless electro rhythms, FX-warped vocals - ought to mark this Swedish brother-and-sister act out as witless hangers-on at the fizzled-out electroclash party. And yet Silent Shout - their third album - is as fresh, fearless and immersive as modern pop music gets. A dramatic baroque stew of Kate Bush, Erasure and Throbbing Gristle, it’ll leave Razorlight fans reeling in baffled disgust, which ought to be recommendation enough.

The most fascinating album of the year - dark, sharp beats and hypnotising vocals. Excellent live show as well.
