The reason for the season. An early Christmas present from America’s most prolific Episcopalian. These hymns and seasonal favourites were originally home-recorded gifts for friends and family. Now collated and re-recorded they’re released in typically expansive style across five CDs plus songbook, stickers, cartoons and stories. Stevens’ music frequently has a Sunday School “everyone grab an instrument” feel to it, with banjos, woodblocks and recorders, and his reverential delivery suits straight readings of Once In Royal David’s City and Amazing Grace. Whilst original compositions, like That Was The Worst Christmas Ever!, hint at the claustrophobia of family gatherings. This only occasionally matches the breathtaking splendour of last year's …Illinoise! but with its modest price and immodest extras only Scrooge could fail to have his heart warmed. Sufjan Stevens - Songs For Christmas Singalong, released 04 December 06 on Asthmatic Kitty.

I just wandered to HMV and bought it - they had a few. It is fab though. Listening to "Get behind me Santa" now.
