Psyche-folk odes from San Francisco. Once purveyors of bedroom-recorded lo-fi mantras, the Leopards’ fourth album finds the West Coast troupe ratcheting up the fidelity on music of blissful, if distinctly antediluvian, style. Typically, the title track’s 12-string chimes and lazily drawled harmony vocals conflate The Byrds with The Incredible String Band, while the tender, languorous – if theologically erroneous - Jesus Was A Californian summons up the ghost of Gram Parsons and the baroque ache of Big Star. Palpably, no wheels are being reinvented here, but it remains a hazily melodic treat nonetheless. Skygreen Leopards - Disciples Of California, released 13 November 06 on Cosmos.
