truck 06 - the futureheads
truck festival sessions 06
Keep on Trucking.

It may be Glastonbury’s fallow year, or the branded nightmare of the major corporate shindigs, but the smaller boutique festival continues to thrive. In 2006, it’s not enough to witness extraordinary new bands; there must be homemade flapjacks, the opportunity to purchase brightly-coloured ukuleles and drama students running swap-shops. (Most coveted item? A jackdoor named George.)

The Brakes and The Mystery Jets.

Truck, now in its ninth year, has the requisite oddity and welcoming homeliness down to a T. The bands aren’t bad either. Accordingly, this small South Oxfordshire farm is swarming with dedicated music nuts. “I’ve only seen one or two knob heads,” says Whiskas from ¡Forward Russia!. Is there any higher recommendation? The punters are similarly consistent, universally laudatory bar one. “I’m sick of explaining I don’t like monster trucks,” says one disgruntled (non-monster truck) fan.

Seth Lakeman and Forward Russia.

As you’d expect we have full-length performances by the best of the fest: Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.; ¡Forward Russia!; and The Futureheads. Not to mention a couple of acoustic exclusives from Seth Lakeman and Brakes. Sadly, we’ve no footage of the Young Knives’ Henry & House gliding towards the stage, regal as swans, while their flustered drummer Oliver struggles with bongos several paces behind. Never mind, I guess you had to be there.

Man, i wish i went to this festival. I did consider it but theres always problems of trying to convince your friends that Leeds isn't the place to go this year despite the line up. In the end i caved, but still i wish i had gone, it looked brilliant! I'm definitely going next year and its always nice to see more of Forward Russia! Get Cape I saw a while back also and he was great at the little rants before each track. Also the Mystery Jets?! I'm so jealous...
