kid koala 'some of my best friends are djs'

Bric-a-brac turntablism.

Japanese-Canadian Eric San gets busy on the decks – something you can’t say about his release schedule, since this is only his second half-hour-long album in three years. Tracks like On The Set Of Fender Bender and Annie’s Parlour sound less hip-hop cut-and-paste, in the traditional sense, than jumble sale oddities stuck together with Blu-tac beats and Sellotape samples. But this adds to their endearingly skew-whiff quality as the Koala wombles through old blues and jazz records, picking up the pieces and turning them into something new. (7/10) Paul Clarke 03 October 03

Kid Koala - Some Of My Best Friends Are DJs, released 06 October 03 on Ninja Tune.
