Summer loving. Any band that features both a classically-trained double bass player and Brazilian former death-metal guitarist, and whose frontman has adopted the surname of Dangerfield, might reasonably have eccentricity expected of them. And so it is with pop quartet Guillemots. Theirs is a fulsome and extravagant, love-filled sound borne aloft on summer's breeziness, swollen with casual grandeur and baroque instrumental flourishes. Not all of Dangerfield's maverick ideas work - he should steer clear of under-accompanied singing for a start - but when they do take off, Guillemots really soar.Guillemots - Through The Windowpane, released 17 July 06 on Polydor.

i love the interaction between the bass and the drums on made up love song #43it's a lovely album... but, the version of 'blue would still be blue' on the album is woeful. mr dangerfield should have steered clear and rather over-eggs the pudding. the version on the 'songs' is much better -simpler, sweet and when performed live, magical.

Whenever I hear Made up love song #43 it fascinates me. They are very odd and hypnotic indeed. I was very upset to see comparisons being made to Prefab Sprout in the 'If you like this' box. It made me feel quite dirty.
