Alt country from Cornwall. This fourth album from Nashville pretenders, Mojave 3, is infused with the sleepy warmth of the Cornwall town where it was recorded. Soft and unhurried, these glistening pop songs are haunted by pedal steels, mellotrons, synths and cellos and soothed by Neil Halstead’s warm ash voice. While spacey bleeps and electro scratches drift in and out of the gently aching songs, like whiffs of The Flaming Lips mellowed by a sunny Sunday. Spoon And Rafter is the ultimate half-light album, cocooned in melancholy and perfectly poised to soundtrack a bright breaking dawn.
