the return of the original bleep meister. after 7 years mixing with various pop boffins (bjork/depeche mode)
luckily one of mark bells (lfo) mate kept tracks archived that mark forgot all about so that we, the general public, can now hear the ultimate lfo mixtape, though this is not following in the way of hip-hop mixtapes, where tracks are blended and melded into a continuous whole. instead this is a well structured lp with seperate tracks and a whole spread of industrial electro noisy groove driven atmospheres and epic sweeping moods, without ever becoming overlong and boring. the lp passes within 45 minutes meaning the album is digested and the replay button is pressed on a regular basis. best ambient techno album for 2003 ? definitely. maybe warp should ask marks mate to look under his bed to see if there any more lost classics .. breaking from tradition here's a track by track reaction. 1. blown : superb opening shot. like orbital used to do prior to discovering belinda carlise/suzi quatro samples and dr who themes. pure machine created melodies that cleanse the woofers. a serious highlight. 2. mum-man : noisy clanky techno. then slides into a beat driven monster with a mass of distorted white noise ambience set againt the bass beats from hell. not as bad as it sounds in all honesty. 3. mokeylips : melody returns. scratchy beats, industrial beats. with a simple old school bleep melody line. lovely. 4. snot : as unpleassant as the name implies ? industrial electro noise fest. nitzer ebb. hurray. i think. 5. moistly : sublime ambience opening with mellow clicks and bass booms. wobble. its bloody gorgeous. 6. unafraid to linger : bass booms on alert, bladerunner epicness. music of the future that is now. if this was accompanying a high budget advertising campaign you would be trying to find out the creator of the slice of blissful calm. i will avoid the term etheral. just. 7. sleepy chicken : another bass booming ambient dream sequence. class (of 92). bloody gorgeous. future sound of london without the prog bollocks. 8. freak : mad vocoders collide with a metallic house beat. this is going to make you freak. does exactly as it says. bleeping'tastic. 9. mummy i've had an accident : uptempo clean techno. very insistent, and funky. 10. nevertheless : backwards cello sounds interact with a slight quite clickety beat and synthetics. calming and special. 11. 'premacey. more bladerunner style moodmusic. a perfect album closer.
