Winsome folk-pop from Devendra’s bandmate. The brainchild of sometime Banhart band guitarist Andy Cabic, previous Vetiver records have proffered promising if overly mellow fare. To Find Me Gone is a quite different beast. Though it still errs toward a languid late-60s template, Cabic’s songwriting is now crisp and effortlessly melodic. Opener, Been So Long, sounds like a cover of some half-remembered Topanga Canyon classic; its yielding, Tim Buckley-esque vocal cosseted by heart-swelling strings and recorders. Elsewhere, finger-picked acoustics, Lindsay Buckingham-style guitar solos and a Bolan-esque cameo from Mr Banhart scrub-up an aged template till it shines anew. Vetiver - To Find Me Gone, released 05 June 06 on Fat Cat.
