You don’t have to be sad to work here... You'd think a four-year break would cheer up the grumpiest of characters, but San Diego's indie rock gloomsters Black Heart Procession refuse to muster even a curl of the lip upon their return. Smudged with a grimy despair, their fifth album, The Spell, takes a macabre jaunt through portentous stories of heartbreak, loneliness and loss. Singer Pall Jenkins’ anguished howlings are offset by mournful piano lines, brooding strings and insistent drumming. This is woozy Americana wrapped fast in thick swathes of serrated menace. Misery never seemed so appealing. Black Heart Procession – The Spell, released 08 May 06 on Touch & Go.

Yes it's not the Beach Boys but it's not all doom and gloom. If you want a contender for song of the year check out "The Letter". Excellent arrangement - should appeal to fans of good quality music everywhere. In you like Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket etc - you will not be disappointed.
