( tv : wed night , 11:45pm-3:00am )
-------------------------------------------------------- every wednesday night, channel4's 'outside' zone. new programs before 2:00am : -------------------- england is mine -------------------- a documentary tracking the journey of a guy through the 2002 world cup matches in japan. it seemed without even try, it managed to portrate this guy as low self esteem, with troubled teenage years, who thinks people should stop complaining about lads "smashing up things once in a while", and that "there is nothing more important then england" because he "has no family", and reckons that "the only thing that gets in the way between" him "and england is" his "girlfriend". those hatred eyes towards their football 'enemies', couples with chat lines such as "personally, i do not condome racism". obsessive glazes during the matchs, and the emotions flooding out of his eyes when england lost. it suggested what thousands of people in england could be like, and a glimse of their lives. but did it? the twist was that it was done in a style to make fun of this type of documentaries. it stated that its objective was to make sense of why football is so important to the english, and would do this in an objective way. however, deliberately, it ended up showing a narrow view of just the "victim" (as it called him at the end), just like many of this type of documentaries ended up doing. not to be missed - but you have missed it if you're reading this. -------------------- the streets -------------------- following up the documentary that explores what it is to be english, a set of music vids of similar themes by mike skinner of the streets, the ultimate choice for serving as an interlude. as they rap about life as an english teenager, gettin' drunk/ high, smashin' things, education system, tower blocks, speeding, family problems, homeless etc... with visuals to match. -------------------- myth of father -------------------- a documentary about programme's director's transsexual father. "he gets annoyed if we used the wrong pronoune". the style is very quaint, slow pace, just what i'd expect. it showed a family that seemed so normal in everyway, yet with one revelation made it appear more interested. repeat programs after 2:00am : -------------------- how's your news? -------------------- just like in 'happy tv', in which the reporter interviewed unsuspecting individuals, except this time, it was done by reporters with disabilities, mentally or physically. they travel across different states in america, and posed all sorts of unintelligible questions to the locals. it was hilarious the way people reacted to them. -------------------- alt-tv : yo-yo -------------------- about 2002 yo-yo world championship in florida (i was asleep by then). -------------------------------------------------------- :::::::::: think i'm talking rubbish ? :::::::::: -------------------------------------------------------- come flame me here U224133 updated : 14/08/2003
